CONTEST FOR RESEARCH GRANT ATTRIBUTION IN THE SCOPE OF HIPERCAMBIO PROJECT

In the terms of the Advanced Formation and Qualification of Human
Resources Regulation for Science and the Technology Foundation and having
in account the application of the Statute of the Researcher, Law nº
40/2004 of 18 of August, is open the contest for attribution of aresearch
grant, in the scope of project HIPERCAMBIO - High Performance Computing
Applied you the Medical Date and Bioinformatics, financed by Microsoft, in
the following conditions:
1 – CRITERION FOR CANDIDATES SELECTION
The evaluation of the candidatures is made on the basis of the merit of
the candidate and in the adequacy of the CV to the work program.
2 – DURATION and REGIMEN Of the ACTIVITY
The activity to develop, in exclusiveness, will initiate at 1 of October
of 2007 and will have the duration of ten months.
3 - WORK TO DEVELOP
The researcher will have the following tasks: 1) Study of existing
segmentation methods used for 2D images related to breast cancer; 2)
adaptation of these methods to the case of 3D images; e 3) Analysis of the
needs and possibilities of using high performance computing to improve the
methods study in task 1.

5 – FINANCIAL COMPONENTS
The sum of the research grant is the stipulated in the table of values of
the research grant in the country attributed by the FCT and will be paid
monthly (745,00 euros to the date of this announcement).
6 - ADDRESSEES
This research grant can be applied by bachelor in the area of Computer
science.
7 – CONTRACT MODEL, REPORTS And EVALUATION
The contract is conducted by Art.º 8 of the Statute of the Researcher, Law
nº 40/2004 of 18 of August. The researcher will have to present a report
after three months of work and in the end of the contract. The first
report will be evaluated by the supervisor, using the following criterion:
volume and quality of work; capacity of work in groups.
8 - Candidatures
The individual candidatures must be presented by candidature letter send
to Prof. Manuela Pereira, Departmento de Informática, Universidade da

followed of a detailed curriculum vitae and a letter relating the
motivation of the candidate and its previous experience.
9 - Sending the candidates
The candidatures can be sent by the post office until the 24 of September
of 2007, or deliver in hand until the 17 hours of this day.
